Why Stress?
Why stress matters, and how historical vagus nerve stimulation research differs from the EVANES wellness device.

Historical article, originally published in 2024. Clinical and experimental vagus nerve stimulation research discussed here is not evidence that EVANES treats disease. EVANES is a non-medical wellness device, not a substitute for medical care or prescribed medication.
Why is stress such a big issue then?
Well, it is a massive global problem resulting in cost of billions of Euros in form of sick leave days and on a global level stress management and mental health drugs market is estimated to reach USD 62.6 billion by 2025.
According to studies, stress is a cause or contributing factor in most health problems and in more than 85% of chronic diseases. Excess stress develops when our autonomic nervous system goes out of balance. This generates sympathetic overactivity, a state of hyper-arousal, which the precise treatment is counteracting the parasympathetic activity to increase parasympathetic activity.
One researched approach to influencing parasympathetic activity is electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve. This so-called vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) has been a standard treatment for epilepsy and depression for over 20 years. Implanted VNS requires surgery to place the electrode and processor.
EVANES activates the vagus system by stimulating the nerve fibres of the small ear branch of the vagus in a transcutaneous manner, we call the method taVANS, transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation.
EVANES is intended for general wellness and is not a treatment for depression or a substitute for medication. The transcutaneous method is non-invasive; safety and effectiveness depend on the specific method and use.
Long live taVNS!
